Texture And Patterns: Comfortable?

We live in comfort. We have sofas to sit on, and beds to sleep in. For most of us, our homes are places that surround us with warmth. Just like two hands around the baby.

If you are lucky and have your own place to settle, a nest to hanker down into on a stormy night, then you probably have considered whether it is comfortable.

And what is the meaning of comfort? Well, we have the following explanations:

"a feeling of relief or encouragement. It's a comfort to know that I can rely on you for help. b. : contented well-being. a life of ease and comfort."

"a satisfying or enjoyable experience"

"one that gives or brings comfort"

Personally, I have never gone for the hard cold lines that some favor. Give me a tapestry sofa, slightly worn, and some thick cushions. Let's light the fire and snuggle down, relax and drink tea.

For you, it might be different. Some people prefer a show home, where everything is in its place just in case the inlaws pop over. Whatever you choose,  it should be what makes you feel comfortable.

So, you might say, what is this leading to Tiggy?

Well, I will reply, to the above. Patterns and Textures are everywhere at the moment and doesn't it make a positive change from grey.

The spiritually connected late author Louise Hay, thankfully informed us all about the emotional effects of colour on our bodies and minds. In her writing and talks our angel of light, Louise, talked of how they affect you. And could it be, that, there is something to this? When was the last time you went into a dark grey room with a large angular grey or black sofa and felt genuinely happy?.
If we take the psychology of colour theory to be correct, why do we surround ourselves with colours that could be doing us harm?

According to The London Colour Institute: "Color can play an important role in conveying information nonverbally, creating certain moods, and even influencing the decisions people make.".

Indeed, as early as 2000 BC colour was being used to treat illnesses. Remedies are documented by the Egyptians, such as using rooms painted in certain shades. Also, certain crystals that filter sunlight were put into use.

Documentation named the Huangdi Neolignane Ching is said to have supprted colour healing practices.

In 1798/9 the rose of temperments is well documented:
"The diagram matches twelve colors to human occupations or their character traits, grouped in the four temperaments: * choleric (red/orange/yellow): tyrants, heroes, adventurers * sanguine (yellow/green/cyan) hedonists, lovers, poets * phlegmatic (cyan/blue/violet): public speakers, historians * melancholic (violet/magenta/red): philosophers, pedants, rulers"

Colour, Patterns, and Texture have been shaping our world for thousands of years.

In a world that keeps us busy, our homes are a place to dwell, relax, laugh, and love. So the next time you purchase something, whether new or not, why not put a bit of thought into how you would like to feel.
