Trees: Teachers with deep roots

This time of year can be hectic and stressful.

What can you do to soothe yourself and find the calm within?

Getting outside of yourself in nature might help.

Many years ago, I fell in love with trees, especially in the winter. With their bare branches, dark against snow or shining in the moonlight. Finding the time to wrap up warm and get out for a walk is the beginning of a journey.

Standing in peace and taking in the beauty of these great teachers is a free gift.

Being in the presence of stamina, and strength is to look at a tree. You know that in time new shoots will arrive for a new season. Soon the shiny or green velvet leaves will appear and softness will prevail.

Winter arrives for all of us and we feel bare and open to the elements.

If we stand firm like a tree, we can be in the world and let the seasons of life come and go and still feel attached to our roots.
